Why your CDP score matters

The scoring is unforgiving

CDP scoring is demanding. The questionnaire covers governance, risks, strategy, targets, and emissions data across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. The scoring methodology rewards specificity: generic answers get penalized, incomplete data gaps pull your score down, and missing sections can drop you from a B to a D.

Where teams lose points

The most common problems we see: companies submitting high-level answers where CDP expects granular data, underreporting Scope 3 emissions (which now carries significant weight), missing opportunities to demonstrate progress on targets and transition plans, and treating the questionnaire as a compliance exercise rather than a strategic disclosure.

Supply chain pressure

Your score is not just an investor signal. Large customers increasingly ask suppliers to disclose through CDP and use the result in procurement decisions. A weak score shows up in tenders and supplier scorecards. Read how to respond to a CDP supplier request and what the CDP supply chain program involves.

What a specialist changes

A CDP specialist knows exactly what the scoring methodology rewards. They help you turn the data you already have into a disclosure that reflects your actual performance.

How Dazzle helps

Score review and gap analysis

Already reporting but not satisfied with your score? Our consultant reviews your previous submission, identifies where you lost points, and builds an improvement roadmap for the next cycle.

Best for: companies with an existing CDP score looking to move from D/C to B or from B to A.

Full disclosure support

Reporting for the first time or need end-to-end support? Our consultant handles the full process: data collection strategy, Scope 1/2/3 calculations, questionnaire completion, quality review, and submission. See our walkthrough of the CDP climate change questionnaire.

Best for: first-time reporters, and companies disclosing because a large customer asked them to.

A-list strategy

Scoring B or B- and want to reach the A-list? Our consultant does a deep dive into the scoring methodology, identifies the specific questions and data points that separate A from B, and helps you develop the evidence CDP needs to see: verified targets, transition plans, and demonstrated progress.

Best for: companies already at B-level aiming for A/A- and CDP leadership recognition.

Frequently asked questions

CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) runs the global environmental disclosure system. Over 22,100 companies disclose through CDP, and the data is used by investors, customers, and regulators to evaluate climate performance. Many large buyers now require CDP disclosure from their suppliers. Reporting through CDP also feeds into other frameworks: CSRD references CDP data, and a strong CDP score strengthens your sustainability credentials across the board.

CDP scores range from A (leadership) to D- (disclosure). An A score means your company demonstrates best-practice environmental management, has verified targets, and shows measurable progress. B means you are managing your environmental impact effectively. C means you have awareness but gaps in management. D means you disclosed but without sufficient action. Companies that do not respond at all receive an F.

CDP typically opens its questionnaire platform in April, with a submission deadline in late July. However, companies can request extensions. The earlier you start preparation, the stronger your disclosure will be. We recommend starting at least 3 months before the deadline.

For a first-time reporter, expect 8 to 12 weeks for a thorough disclosure. For companies improving an existing score, a focused review and improvement cycle typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. The timeline depends on data availability, the complexity of your value chain, and how much Scope 3 work is needed.
