You can challenge an EcoVadis score in 3 ways: report a factual error during the 2 business days before your scorecard is published, ask EcoVadis a question about rejected evidence, or file a formal complaint if the answer does not resolve it. Disagreeing with the methodology or weighting is not grounds for a correction.
A lower score than expected usually has a plain cause: evidence that was missing, out of date or did not cover enough of the business. Sometimes the cause sits with the assessment itself, such as a document that met the requirements and was rejected anyway. Only that second situation can be corrected on the current scorecard.
EcoVadis now sets out its routes for this in the Help Center, in line with EU Regulation 2024/3005 on ESG rating activities, and added a review window before publication in 2026. This article covers the 3 routes, what each one can change and how to prepare a case that gets looked at.
Error or gap: decide this first
EcoVadis draws a clear line between the two. A factual error is a mistake in the information used for the assessment, either because incorrect information was provided or because something was misinterpreted during the analysis. These are its own examples:
- A wrong company name, size, industry or location
- A 360Β° news item that does not belong to your legal entity
- A document that met the submission requirements but was rejected
These do not count as factual errors:
- Disagreement with the final score or rating
- Disagreement with how EcoVadis judged or interpreted your evidence
- Disagreement with the methodology or the weightings
If your issue sits in the second list, a challenge will not change the score and the route runs through your next assessment. Our guide on what to do if your EcoVadis score isn’t what you expected covers that path.
Route 1. Report a factual error before publication
Since the second quarter of 2026, your scorecard is visible only to your company for 2 business days before EcoVadis shares it with your customers. In that window you can report factual errors, and the support team follows up by email.
The window is short and it does not stop publication. Your scorecard goes out to the network automatically after the 2 business days, even when a reported error is still under review. Check the preview as soon as the notification arrives, and have someone ready who knows what you submitted. The details are in the EcoVadis release notes for Q1 2026.
Route 2. Ask EcoVadis a question about your scorecard
After publication, the first step is a question through the EcoVadis Help Center, or to your account manager if you have one. Customer Care passes it to the right team. EcoVadis suggests trying its digital assistant Lumi first, and asks you to bundle all your points in a single submission so the answer comes faster.
This is the route for a specific document you believe was overlooked or wrongly rejected. Name the document, the page and the question or answer option it supports.
Route 3. File a formal complaint
If the answer to your question does not resolve it, you can raise a formal complaint through a separate channel in the Help Center, at any point while your subscription is active. EcoVadis only investigates complaints that are material, credible and specific, and expects you to have asked a question first.
The procedure has fixed steps:
- EcoVadis acknowledges a complete submission within 2 business days.
- An independent analyst who was not part of your original assessment reviews the evidence, with internal experts where needed.
- You receive a formal response within 10 business days: an evidence-based explanation for keeping the result, or a formal revision of the rating.
- If you still disagree, the case is escalated to the EcoVadis Resolution Center.
The full procedure is on the EcoVadis questions and complaints page.
A paid alternative: a session with an analyst
If you mainly want to understand your result, EcoVadis offers a 1-hour Session with an Analyst. It costs β¬750 on a Basic subscription and β¬500 on Premium. A Corporate subscription includes a free session, and Select includes a debrief. EcoVadis needs about 10 business days to prepare the agenda.
The session explains how the methodology scored your evidence. To protect the independence of the rating, EcoVadis will not advise you on how to improve your score or implement corrective actions. That part is work for an EcoVadis consultant.
How to prepare a case that gets looked at
EcoVadis asks for specific, evidence-based submissions and redirects general dissatisfaction, which only delays the answer. In practice that means:
- Limit it to the points that would move the score. A long list of improvement areas reads as general dissatisfaction.
- Per point, name the questionnaire item, the document, the page and the passage that supports your answer.
- Check first that the document met the requirements: specific to your company, dated, approved and covering at least 80% of your operations or employees, or 95% for energy and greenhouse gas KPIs.
- Bundle everything in a single submission.
- Keep it factual and use the official channels. EcoVadis does not accept direct contact with its executives about a case.
What a challenge will not fix
- Documents you did not submit. The routes above are for mistakes in how your submitted information was handled. A policy that was missing or out of date goes into your next assessment.
- Disagreement with the methodology or the weightings. EcoVadis does not treat this as a factual error. You can raise it as a complaint, and it feeds into how EcoVadis reviews its methodology, which includes a public consultation for material changes.
- Timing. Your scorecard is published after the 2-day window either way, and a formal response to a complaint can take up to 10 business days. If a customer needs your scorecard for a tender this month, plan around the published version.
How often this happens in practice
Of the 63 EcoVadis engagements our consultants ran since January 2024, 3 were appeals, and each took between 3 and 10 hours. In both cases where we have the history, the appeal came after earlier assessment work. A mis-score is easier to spot for someone who already knows what was submitted.
Where Dazzle fits
An independent EcoVadis consultant can read your scorecard next to what you submitted, tell you whether you are looking at an error or a gap, and prepare the question or complaint with you. Dazzle matches you with one usually within 48 hours. Our consultants include former EcoVadis employees and specialists who ran assessments at EcoVadis accredited consulting partners.
